cant believe a bunch of english kids go through a fuckin cupboard and find a magical kingdom full of wonder and they go “yeah we’re the royal family now”
typical english behaviour
I think what’s more creepily imperialistic is the reaction of everyone in Narnia to the Pevensies.
Like, the Pevensies end up the royal family in large part because everyone’s like ‘it has been prophesied that you will come and rule us and everything will be great!’ and, well, in-universe I can’t really fault them on that; if I were a young teen or pre-teen in a completely foreign country, I too would probably just go along with whatever seem to make people friendly to me.
But the reaction of the Narnians, in almost ubiquitously welcoming these foreigners as obviously destined to rule them even though they know nothing of the country and the culture… now that is some creepily imperialist writing.
This is the only good reblog of this post in it’s entire 3 year hellscape existence
if four foreign kids popped out of a magic box and deposed trump by the express wishes of god’s fursona, i’d crown ‘em. this winter already fuckin feels like it’s lasted 100 years.
So this whole thing started with this tweet by Twitter user Katie Henry (KT_NRE). I started plowing through newspapers to find every mention of her – and found most that were out there, but a man named Todd Sanders, who had access to Pennsylvania libraries, found quite a few more. All of this takes place in October and November of 1922, before timeskipping to September 1923 (her third escape), October 1923 (her guilty verdict), and March 1924 (her escape attempt with Roxie Starcher).
I have been unable to find her obituary or anything else out there about my new hero.
After turning 18, every kid is required to go to special tattoo parlor
where the town’s resident mage gives them a tattoo. No one knows what
the tattoo will be until it’s done, not even the mage. The tattoo forms
itself into a symbol that will become very important in the person’s
life. On Character A’s 18th birthday, their tattoo forms itself into a
crown.
Character A convinces their best friend, Character B, to go get a
tattoo. Not wanting anything big, Character B gets a small flower on
their back. The next morning, Character A gasps when they see Character
B’s entire back covered in vines and leaves and flowers, and they only
seem to be spreading further.
Everyone gets one tattoo in their life, and that tattoo gives them a
power of their choosing. Character A really wants the power to see
through objects, so they get a pair of eyes. However, after a series of
visions, they come to realize the power that manifested was actually
seeing into the future.
“I’m a mage and have been searching for an apprentice for years by
pushing a little bit of magic into everyone tattoo I give, just to see
if anyone reacts to it. None had, until I gave you yours. The second the
needle touched your skin, ink started flowing into patterns everywhere.
Please stop freaking out” AU
When tattoos start appearing on one’s body overnight, it’s a sign that
they’re meant to join the War of Magic. However, Character A’s parents
are major pacifists and hate the war, so Character A begins their own
struggle as they try to hide the growing tattoos their parents.
“I’ve been told all my life that moving tattoos were normal – a sign of
being healthy. But I don’t think that means the tattoos are supposed to
come off of my skin and fly around? Cause that’s why I’ve been hiding
out in my room all week” AU
My favourite thing about the whole ‘no man of woman born’ thing is that it applies to a very broad church.
For example:
People born via c-section (no man of woman born, meaning natural childbirth, aka, the Shakespeare approach)
Women (no man of woman born, aka, the Tolkein approach)
Non-binary types (see above)
Aliens (no man of woman born, with the meaning of man being in the ‘mankind’ sense)
Artificial intelligences (see above again)
Transmen (no man of woman born, the man-ness appears to come later as gender is a social construct. Arguably borderline, I know.)
People carried by a man (no man of woman born)
People grown in vats (no man of woman born)
Basically, anyone who isn’t a human cisgendered male delivered via natural childbirth by a woman could kill Macbeth. (Given the equipment via science!, the child of a transwoman born via natural childbirth would still count as unable to.)
It’s odd that you can divide mankind into ‘Macbeth killers’ and everyone else, even though everyone else is in the minority, especially if aliens are real and we create AIs capable of murdering Scottish kings.
there are two genders: macbeth killers and macbeth
