That’s because when our white grandparents fought Nazis, it was for fear of them taking power away from other white people.
White Europeans and Americans were explicitly fine with genocide and the ideologies that led to it – a great many people, including Churchill, vocally supported most of what the Nazis were doing. Their only fight with Nazis was to maintain sovereignty from takeover.
Today’s Nazi-fighters usually have a problem with white supremacy and the antisemitism and racism etc behind it – which most of our white grandparents didn’t see a problem with and neither do many white people today.
This is why so many people don’t see any reason to stop the Nazis now, or why many others think it’s purely a struggle for Democrats or other neoliberal parties in other countries who might lose political power if they gain traction. Many people don’t see Nazis as a real problem unless they threaten the political power of other white people.
White supremacist organizations and movements have been a life-threatening scourge for people of colour and Jewish people this entire time. It’s really important that we focus on that as the real threat, or we risk having the same myopic perspective as generations past.

Um, sorry, but the guy in the suit deserves to speak his opinions. How’d you like to get screamed at everything time you spoke about what you are passionate about? I’m not saying I agree with his opinion, but that doesn’t make shutting him down like this right. Freedom of Speech. Just agree to disagree and walk away.
1) Freedom of Speech means you have the right to speak your mind without being punished or censored by the government. It does not mean other people have to listen to you, and it does not mean they can’t yell over you if you’re saying something disgusting and inflammatory. The Biker Dude has just as much right to do what he’s doing as the Neo-Nazi. Nobody’s right is being infringed upon here.
2) The guy is “passionate about” hating and inciting violence against Jews. I’m passionate about information literacy, candle-making, and giving snuggles to my pet rabbit. There’s a fucking difference, there.
3) “Agree to disagree” is something you say when two people can’t come to a consensus over whether or not The Empire Strikes Back is the best Star Wars movie. It’s not something you say when one person is Jewish and the other person believes Jews are a evil satanic cabal trying to enslave the white race who must be stopped at all costs. That’s not an “agree to disagree” topic. We don’t “agree to disagree” over the issue of whether or not Jews are people. We don’t “agree to disagree” over whether or not black people, immigrants, Muslims, LGBTQ folks, etc. are deserving of basic human rights. These things are not up for debate, and there is no middle-ground to be had with people who think otherwise.

The Chicago Dyke March, an alternative to Chicago Pride that is meant to have a more “social justice” orientation, caught a heap of bad press when it expelled several Jewish marchers for carrying rainbow Jewish pride flags featuring a Star of David on them. The march has defiantly resisted any and all calls to apologize, and insisted that it was only being “critical of Israel” (isn’t everything?).
They mean this as a defense. It’s actually an indictment. Let me explain why.
I’ll accept, for sake of argument, that the Chicago Dyke March did not “know” the term “Zio” was antisemitic. Nonetheless, the March almost certainly did not stumble across the term “Zio” by accident. It got it from somewhere, from sources it felt confident enough in that it felt comfortable emulating. In other words, one of the ways the Chicago Dyke March learned to speak about matters of Jewish concern was from people who think it is okay to toss around terms like “Zio.” The odds that everything else it learned about those matters from this same social network was magically uninfected by this obvious antisemitism is incredibly scant. It’s the thirteenth (or in this case fourteenth, or fifteenth, or seventieth) chime that calls into question the other twelve.
There are many places in this country where people grow up hearing racial slurs that they don’t “know” are derogatory – they’re “just what people say.” When they move into the wider world and use such terms, they sometimes claim ignorance – and in some sense, they might be right. But the implication of their apologia is that not that they are free from racism – far from it. It’s that they grew up in an environment where racism was so normalized that they didn’t even know how to recognize it. Such a situation demands some very hard work of unlearning, of radically questioning one’s own presuppositions and acknowledging that one needs to acquire substantial new information before one can feel confident in one’s ability to relate to the other group in an ethical manner.
But let’s give the Dyke March even further benefit of the doubt. Suppose they somehow magically stumbled upon “Zio” through entirely innocent means – nobody in their social network was using it, they came up with it all be their creative selves. Even still, all that would demonstrate is that they don’t know crucial information about a subject they nonetheless feel fully confident to opine on. Put another way, if they didn’t “know” that “Zio” was antisemitic, shouldn’t the next question be “what else don’t we know?”
I’ve long thought that the heart of oppression as a discursive practice is a perceived entitlement to talk about a group without knowing about the group. The Chicago Dyke March pleads ignorance about Jews and antisemitism, but that ignorance in no way dissipates their belief that they are absolutely entitled to talk about Jews and Jewish institutions however they want and be treated as credible and legitimate entrants to the discussion. It’s not a valid move. If you don’t know enough about Jews or antisemitism to know that “Zio” is an antisemitic term, then you don’t know enough to be confident that any of your other opinions about Jews or antisemitism are worthwhile.
The Dyke March, in short, wants the innocence of ignorance without the responsibility. It wants to be able to say, on the one hand, “we didn’t know that this term we used was a prominent antisemitic slur”, while on the other hand it equally wants to say “we do know that in all other cases everything else we’ve said or done vis-a-vis Jews is entirely above-board and not antisemitic.” They can only have the first if they’re willing to disturb the second.

So, there’s this trend that happens in liberal/activist spaces, where the second gentiles find out you’re Jewish, they no longer trust you unless you immediately, completely denounce every aspect of Israel down to its very existence.
I have experienced this interrogation and distrust personally, in activist spaces at UCSC. At one point I even made a Facebook post about it because I was curious if it was just me and discovered that every other Jewish person I know at UCSC had also experienced something similar. Leftists do not welcome or trust Jews who have any qualms about disavowing Israel.
To be clear: I’m NOT talking about acknowledging that the Israeli government is committing human rights violations against Palestinians. That should be obvious, and isn’t inherently antisemitic. What IS antisemitic is this trend that has been going on for years in liberal activist spaces, where the second a Jewish person is involved in literally anything, ie Existing While Jewish, gentiles HAVE to bring up Israel, and quiz us on it until they’re satisfied that we have completely denounced it, including its right to exist. And if we don’t denounce every aspect of it to their satisfaction, then obviously we must support the genocide of Palestinians and are cast out of activist spaces.
That’s what’s going on with Gal Godot. The plot of Wonder Woman had NOTHING to do with Israel or Palestine but because she is Israeli, because she served in the Israeli Army (which by the way, is mandatory, and also she served as a goddamn fitness instructor) gentiles are pouring out of the woodwork to deem her “problematic.” And I’m fucking pissed.
Gentiles are encouraged to reblog this, because I am TIRED of seeing this shit in supposedly liberal spaces. We Jews can’t be the only ones calling this out. That’s a catch-22, because our opinions of Israel and antisemitism are ‘’’untrustworthy’’’. 🙂
I just want to add on to this that, if anyone is saying Gal Gadot advocates killing babies (and yes, I have seen that on Tumblr reblogs), that is explicitly blood libel (yes, even if it comes from someone on the left), and I would really like to see goyim calling that out.
That Gal Gadot has never ‘supported the Palestinian genocide’.
Does not have a rifle with the notch marks of all those she’s killed.
And has stated outright that she believes in coexistence.
She worked as a fitness instructor, never seeing combat during her mandatory stint in the Israeli army (IDF), and the only thing she said was that she wished luck to her former colleagues in the army (you know, the equivalent of ‘Support Our Troops’) and specifically wished them luck against (and condemned) Hamas, which is a terrorist organization. Her tags then went on to note #stopterror and #coexistance.
You don’t have to like her, or Wonder Woman, or DC, but if you could keep the antisemitism out of it, that’d be great.

In Israel, EVERY citizen is REQUIRED to serve in the IDF. It is a mandatory conscription army. So her involvement in the army wasn’t really a ‘choice’. And she’s sending love out to other people, young people, who also didn’t really have a choice.
The only thing she ever condemns or supports their fight against is Hamas, which has been condemned as a terrorist organization by multiple countries with verified human rights violations and who has been known to obstruct efforts towards a peaceful resolution.
She objects to terrorist action and the killing of civilians. She tags it ‘coexistence’ and ‘stopterror’.
Nowhere does she support Israeli dominance, or the horrific treatment of Palestinians. Nowhere does she carte blanche support Israel’s actions; she just expresses her concern and is praying for the ‘boys and girls’ who are part of her country’s military in the face of horrific terrorist behavior. Nowhere does she wholesale blame Palestinians for the conflict and in fact seems to be horrified that civilians are caught in the middle of this. Nowhere does she wants to free Gaza from Palestinians; just a known terrorist organization.
She’s not being anti-black or anti-brown, she’s not being anti-Palestinian, and she’s definitely not giving a thumbs up to war crimes or exulting in the death of ANYONE. She’s praying and supporting her country’s young people in a really awful, complex situation and she’s very clearly condemning a SPECIFIC organization instead of painting all Palestinians in any way.
The politics of the region are complex and obviously, there’s a lot of layers and conflicting information and feelings but like… someone saying ‘I love and am praying for people in a terrible conflict and want us to overcome it’ isn’t what a lot of people are making it out to be. Is she directing her concern in one direction? Somewhat, yeah. Can you object to the fact that she doesn’t outright say ‘I pray for Palestine’? Definitely. But there’s being more concerned for your own people and then there’s what people are making out she is and has said.
Like I said: dislike her or dislike Wonder Woman or have no interest in the DCEU, but the blatant exacerbation of this post and the additions people have made (about her being a sniper, etc) is just outright antisemitism, plain and simple.
