“but it’s not historically accurate”, i see you cry out. you know what else isn’t historically accurate? all the perfect teeth. all the hairless women. the costumes, often. the accents. the fact that i’m supposed to believe that everyone spoke english all the time regardless of where they were and which company was present. but sure, black people in medieval europe, that’s the big historical innacuracy. because you’re racist.
This year marks the 45th anniversary of Title IX, the landmark legislation that has significantly improved the ability of girls and women to participate in sports. Their participation in college athletics has grown seven-fold in the past 45 years, according to a recently released excerpt from Title IX at 45, which was published by the National Coalition for Women and Girls in Education (1).
However, when looking at the impact of Title IX over the years, Dr. Moneque Walker Pickett, et al. noticed a startling trend (2). With the exception of basketball and track & field, women of color are underrepresented in college sports, despite the aforementioned overall growth. Girls and women are playing ice hockey in record numbers, but women of color are still an anomaly. This is a movie about murder on native american reservations, FRAMING THE ENTIRE STORY AROUND WHITE PEOPLE.
For context, this is actually a serious problem on reservations because the government does not give a single flying fuck and evil white men have figured out that native women are easy targets. 84% of native women report being the victims of violence, significantly higher than any other group in the country. 90% of the perpetrators are non-native. Reservation governments can’t try white people and the FBI refuses to, so the violent crime rates are much higher. Native women routinely go missing, and people in power do not give a damn.
So now they’re making a movie about it WHERE ALL THE NATIVE PEOPLE ARE BACKGROUND CHARACTERS IN THEIR OWN STORY. This is, of course, continuing the longstanding tradition of media and hollywood completely ignoring native people and giving even the few roles that should belong to them (Jacob Black in Twilight, Jacqueline White on Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt) go to white people, making it completely impossible for native people to tell their own stories, while white people make millions off of exploiting them.
tldr; White people have spent centuries murdering natives and trying to destroy native communities, which continues in horrifying ways today, and now another movie made by white people has just come out which will make millions of dollars from commodifying this violence.

That out of the way (because I saw enough people badmouth Lautner back when the movies came out to let the reference just slide by), I agree with you that this is horrible and will be boycotting the movie and signal boosting the post.

This study had 1400 people in it… Remember that sample size matters. remember this when someone tries to rebuke this with a study that has 80 participants. Be as scientifically literate as possible so that we can debunk this nonsense one step at a time.

She got shit from the Doctor, from the fandom, for doing everything a normal person would do, and beyond that, her only fault to viewers is she fell in love with their beloved Doctor (and ::whispers:: she’s black)
She saved his life on more than one occasion. Including giving her last breath when she just met the guy. Not good enough.
She had the crappiest/most dangerous “adventures” with the Doctor and stuck by his side. Not good enough.
She is a doctor in her own right, but took a job at a shop, worked hard and supported him when he had no money, no tardis. Not good enough.
She endured racism and servitude as a second-class citizen all to protect his identity. Not good enough.
She walked the earth for an entire year, while her family worked as slaves, to save the world from tyranny. Not good enough.
After all that she still wasn’t good enough, so she left, and you know what?
You are better than good Martha. You are fucking amazing.
The coverage of women’s sports is being revolutionized right before our eyes, and these women’s leagues are on the cutting edge of technology. While the men dominate network TV coverage, women have been forced to find alternate ways to put eyes on their sport, and it couldn’t have come at a more advantageous time.
