The problem w blaming bi women dating men for their rates of abuse (other than the fact that’s it’s just like… cruel) is that bi women are twice as likely to be abused than women who only date men. And also that it’s the general sociological consensus that while severity is different, relationships between women have similar to slightly higher rates of IPV as m/f relationships. So you end up not only crowing over abused women (a really bad look) but you also erase same gender domestic violence which is actually an issue we need to address in our communities

No More Deaths volunteer arrested, charged with harboring immigrants

“A member of No More Deaths faces a felony charge after he was arrested by Border Patrol agents, just hours after the Tucson humanitarian group released videos last week showing agents destroying water and food left for those crossing Arizona’s deserts.

Scott Daniel Warren, 35, faces up to five years in prison for harboring two people suspected of being in the country without authorization, after Warren gave them food and water.”

As a pretty crucial update to this, No Más Muertes (the organization in question above) are currently asking for donations to the legal defense fund for activists and organizers who have been arrested during the struggle for migrant justice along the US/Mexico border.

“On January 17, Scott Warren – a humanitarian aid provider from the group No More Deaths – and two individuals receiving humanitarian aid were arrested by US Border Patrol. Scott was preliminarily charged with felony harboring and could face five years in prison. The arrests took place just 8 hours after No More Deaths released a video of Border Patrol agents destroying water gallons and aid supplies, and a report which concludes that Border Patrol plays a significant role in the destruction of humanitarian aid.

We need your support to fight these charges and resist the dangerous, divisive claim that sharing food and water with undocumented immigrants is a criminal offense. In addition to these felony charges, Scott and 8 other No More Deaths volunteers face federal misdemeanor charges, including “abandonment of property,” for humanitarian aid in Arizona’s West Desert. In 2017, the remains of 58 people who died crossing the border were found in this area – nearly half of all remains found in Arizona that year.”

If you’ve got any scrap cash or spare change to throw at the legal defense fund for some folks arrested while doing really important solidarity work, you can donate here.

I’m so fucking tired of goyim ignoring antisemitism. They ignore everything until something so extreme happens, like the recent shooting. How about you start caring about us BEFORE WE FUCKING DIE. Just fucking LISTEN for ONCE when we say we’re angry or scared or sad about the injustices we as a people have faced OVER AND OVER AGAIN. I don’t know one single Jewish person who hasnt been touched by antisemitism. I’ve been called a kike more times than I can count. I went to elementary school with a boy who told me he wished Hitler had won the war. I was shouted at and threatened by a stranger for wearing a Magen David. My grandpa has had to respond to bomb threats at our synagogue. My grandma had to switch roommates in college because her roommate was violently antisemitic. My fucking Jewish PRESCHOOL had to have ARMED GUARDS to keep people from fucking MURDERING PRESCHOOL AGED JEWISH CHILDREN. I thought all preschools had armed guards until I was like 12. Just fucking LISTEN when we say things. Here, I’ll give you a list of things you NEED to listen to us about.

  • Holocaust deniers are violent antisemites, no exceptions. They are dangerous and do not deserve a platform to speak.
  • Jewish people cannot be nazis, no matter how much you disagree with them. Ben Shapiro is a piece of transphobic racist shit, but he’s not and will never be a Nazi.
  • Trump and many people in his cabinet have repeatedly used antisemitic dog whistles, most recently calling himself a nationalist.
  • We. Are not. All. White. Stop being dicks to Jewish people of color.
  • And we’re not all ashkenazi!!! Google is your friend if you don’t know what that means.
  • Don’t do that “Nazi puncher” bullshit if you don’t actively uplift and defend Jewish people. Punching nazis is a great thing but you need to uplift and support jews at the same time.
  • Stop pinning Israeli war crimes on random Jewish people. And stop demanding we tell you our opinions on Israel before you treat us with basic human decency.
  • GOY IS NOT A SLUR
  • Judaism is an ETHNORELIGION. I am both religiously AND ethnically Jewish. It’s not that hard to understand.
  • Stop tone policing us
  • Just fucking listen when we speak

Goyim please reblog

Matthew Shepard, the young gay man brutally killed on a chilly night in Wyoming 20 years ago this month, was finally laid to rest at Washington National Cathedral on Friday. A reflective, music-filled service offered stark contrast to the anti-gay protests that marred his funeral two decades ago.

The public remembrance at the filled 4,000-seat cathedral was led by the Right Rev. Mariann Edgar Budde, Episcopal bishop of Washington, and the Right Rev. Gene Robinson, the first openly gay man elected a bishop in the Episcopal Church. After, his ashes were interred at the cathedral’s crypt in a private family ceremony.

Robinson was emotional throughout the public ceremony, tearfully addressing the large crowd. “For Matthew to come back to church,” he said, “is a remarkable step forward.”

He extended a particular welcome to attendees who are LGBT, saying, “Many of you have been hurt by your own religious communities, and I want to welcome you back.”

Shepard’s parents’ requested that their sons ashes be interred at the cathedral after 20 years of reluctance. They feared his gravesite would be desecrated.

Matthew’s murder broke my heart to pieces when it happened, and breaks my heart on every anniversary.

For all LGBT people who were and still are hurt by their religious communities I’m glad this step forward happened.

Mugshot of a teenage girl arrested for protesting segregation, Mississippi, 1961.

Her name is Joan Trumpauer Mulholland. Her family disowned her for her activism. After her first arrest, she was tested for mental illness, because Virginia law enforcement couldn’t think of any other reason why a white Virginian girl would want to fight for civil rights.

She also created the Joan Trumpauer Mullholland Foundation. Most recently, she was interviewed on Samatha Bee’s Full Frontal on February 15 for their segment on Black History Month.

Don’t reduce civil rights heroes to “teenage girl”.

She’s still alive!!! She’s 74.

Thank you Joan.

From her wikipedia page:

(Here’s a documentary about her in case you’re not big on reading. )

Her great-grandparents were slave owners in Georgia, and after the United States Civil War, they became sharecroppers. Trumpauer later recalled an occasion that forever changed her perspective, when visiting her family in Georgia during summer. Joan and her childhood friend Mary, dared each other to walk into “n*gger” town, which was located on the other side of the train tracks. Mulholland stated her eyes were opened by the experience: “No one said anything to me, but the way they shrunk back and became invisible, showed me that they believed that they weren’t as good as me. At the age of 10, Joan Trumpauer began to recognize the economic divide between the races. At that moment she vowed to herself that if she could do anything, to help be a part of the Civil Rights Movement and change the world, she would.

In the spring of 1960, Mulholland participated in her first of many sit-ins. Being a white, southern woman, her civil rights activism was not understood. She was branded as mentally ill and was taken in for testing after her first arrest. Out of fear of shakedowns, Mulholland wore a skirt with a deep, ruffled hem where she would hide paper that she had crumpled until it was soft and then folded neatly. With this paper, Mulholland was able to write a diary about her experiences that still exists today. In this diary, she explains what they were given to eat, and how they sang almost all night long. She even mentioned the segregation in the jail cells and stated, “I think all the girls in here are gems but I feel more in common with the Negro girls & wish I was locked in with them instead of these atheist Yankees.

Soon after Mulholland’s release, Charlayne Hunter-Gault and Hamilton E. Holmes became the first African American students to enroll at the University of Georgia. Mulholland thought, “Now if whites were going to riot when black students were going to white schools, what were they going to do if a white student went to a black school?” She then became the first white student to enroll in Tougaloo College in Jackson, where she met Medgar Evers, Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., Reverend Ed King, and Anne Moody.

She received many letters scolding or threatening her while she was attending Tougaloo. Her parents later tried to reconcile with their daughter, and they tried to bribe her with a trip to Europe. She accepted their offer and went with them during summer vacation. Shortly after they returned, however, she went straight back to Tougaloo College.

She ultimately retired after teaching English as a Second Language for 40 years and started the Joan Trumpauer Mulholland Foundation, dedicated to educating the youth about the Civil Rights Movement and how to become activists in their own communities.

I watched a YouTube video once (by a guy who’s name escapes me) about the importance of making sure the stories of white activists are told. His point was that it’s not about lavishing praise on them just because they were white and “woke”, it’s about letting other white allies see that others have come before them who were willing to sacrifice and do the hard work. This way they can see themselves in someone and realize that destroying inequality isn’t a fringe interest or just an “us vs. them” issue. It has to be ALL OF US.
