Please watch this movie, guys,

It’s directed beautifully, they subtly show feminism without exclusively bad mouthing men, and without hesitating they show the issue of how girls are viewed in India. I can safely say that the level of misogyny is in a lot of Asian countries, households and community, it really hits close to home.

They even mentioned the reality of underage marriage and why it’s a problem.

Believe me, it’s an empowering movie and whoever stands with women’s rights will understand what I mean.

since the movie wasn’t mentioned i took the liberty of looking for it! It looks amazing and is the second highest-grossing film at the worldwide box office (x)

It’s called Dangal and you can watch the trailer here

I have watched it and another tidbit is that it is actually based on a true story! Geeta and Babita Phogat won medals for their country in the Commonwealth Games and they come from a state in India (Haryana) that is generally known to be not that progressive.

This is Geeta:

This is Babita

and this is their father, Mahavir Singh Phogat,

The story is inspiring, amazing and every single one of you should watch it by hook or by crook.

Amir Khan (the actor playing the father) has a history of staring and directing films that are very socially aware and most films he takes part in are beautiful in their message.

Highly recommend this movie!!

Listen, I live in India and I witness firsthand the amount of sexism there is here every day. THIS MOVIE IS AMAZING. watch it, please.

Speaking as the the child of Indian immigrants, this is a 10/10 story and film. And I say this as someone who really dislikes Bollywood cinema

In his book, Michael Collins often referred to “the little old ladies with their glue pots” who fashioned the suit that protected him from the harshness of space during his EVA. I am glad that these “little old ladies” are getting their own movie.

So this is made for @darthmelyanna start to finish.

I get tagged in the weirdest posts.

By which I mean, PLEASE KEEP TAGGING ME IN THESE POSTS. This is so cool I could hyperventilate.

@deadcatwithaflamethrower, makes me ponder on Star Wars space suits. 😛 You know this could make for some hilarious jokes from a history buff.

I just want someone to comment in-story about how Plo sat his ass out in the vaccum of space with a breather that would have been ENTIRELY INSUFFICIENT with no space suit for hours on end…and nothing happened. No blood boiling, no freezing, no damage, nada. What we apparently should be doing is harvesting Kel Dor skins for space suits. THERE is your fucked-up historical “WE DID WHAT?” space history for SW.  *g*

movie tropes that will never get old to me:

  • a thing happens + two people exchanging money in the back
  • fourth wall breaking
  • “give up all your weapons” and that one guy that spends the entire evening taking his weights worth out his pockets
  • *a terribly loud crash* meowing/ car sirens heard offscreen
  • alternatively: a terribly loud crash and one of the characters going “oops” in the most casual voice
  • “fuck you” “well if you insist”

#alternatively alternatively: *terribly loud crash w/ sirens and cat screeching*#person: *off camera* ‘I’M OKAY’ (via @zenlida)

character being all “you expect me to do X?” Gilligan Cut to character doing X

  • the squad gets captured and interrogated separately, and they’re all telling equally terrible, completely contradictory lies
  • people completely missing the completely unsubtle, very visible dangerous thing in the room with them
  • alternatively, people absolutely seeing the completely unsubtle, very visible dangerous thing in the room with them and just not giving a shit
  • bonus points if it’s a beleaguered minimum wage employee who just goes about their business like “yep same shit as always”
  • someone pretending they don’t know another character is eavesdropping, only to casually reveal at the end of the scene that they know (*leaving* “tell tom that he can come out now” *tom drops from the ceiling in spy gear, irritated*)
  • choosing to deal with the villain by just leaving them alone in a room with another character
  • the “hands go down” trope
  • example: “any questions?” *everyone’s hands go up* “…that AREN’T sarcastic?” *everyone’s hands go down*

how could all y’all forget “ACT NATURAL!”

These are all great but let’s not forget two characters giving extremely biased flashbacks to the same event that each paint the other as an incompetent loon

i would like to respectfully add: scenes where a character walks into a room, sees something scary, and turns around and walks out with no reaction or change of expression

“I’ve been listening to the distress signal. And I, um… think I made a mistake in the translation.”

One of the thing I loved most about this movie, was this man getting the first translation wrong because in most movies people perfectly translate shit without missing a beat and yeah, no, guys, no. Nobody is that good on the spot the first time.

I saw a really good post about it on @deadcatwithaflamethrower‘s blog too.

(Extra-level of amusement because of @deadcatwithaflamethrower ‘s rants about Harry Potter and Latin, this is the same actor who went on to play Lucius Malfoy).
