We NEED to get Net Neutrality trending again.

This is enough. Ajit Pai has already succeded MULTIPLE TIMES and you can expect the full removal of net neutrality on APRIL 23RD OF THIS YEAR. We can still contact our senators, we can still fight as hrd as we can, but even though 23 states are suposedly suing for the repeal of this, we need to help it along.

In case people forgot what Net Neutrality is: it is a series of laws that ensure everyone free and fair access to the internet. Without them, you will be charged for the sites you use on top of an already high internet bill. This means creators like us cannot post and be seen. Thia means that smaller schools will havebto switch to out of date text books. This means that starter IT projects that could make our lives better will die because noone can support an online presence that noone can afford to see.

And the list goes on and on and on. I have frienda who have to make their livings through commissions and working online because of multiple health issues. I have friends trying to publish books, post art, post voice acting snippets that will not be seen without these laws.

Please support Net Neutrality and contact your senators!!! This is so important to everyone you know, AND WE JUST NEED ONE SENATOR TO TURN THE TIDE!!!

Hey what the fuck happened to all the net neutrality coverage

This shit is still happening people, and all of the sudden its disappeared from my dash almost entirely over night

I don’t know why, but I think people are automatically being unfollowed from the Net Neutrality tag. It happens to me every time I try to follow it. I’ll follow the tag, come back 20 minutes later & I’ll for some reason have unfollowed the tag automatically. I think this may be happening to a majority of people in an attempt to silence the resistance. Please take a screen shot of this post in case it gets deleted.

hey yeah can yall reblog this cause this is very important. Tumblr is ACTIVELY trying to silence out outrage at this by making us incapable of seeing coverage of events. We’re all gonna have to come together and step up about this.

Every little note counts, spread the word, dont give in so easily

I just checked this and i can CONFIRM that tumblr AUTOMATICALLY MAKES YOU UNFOLLOW THE NET NEUTRALITY TAGS AFTER 20 MINUTES

Please spread the word! Screen shot this post just in case it gets deleted!!

There is a reason that happens.  Tumblr is OWNED by Verizon who is a leader in throwing money at getting rid of Net Neutrality.  They have spent literally millions to bring it down so that they can charge you more, slow down your internet and block you from sites they do not deem appropriate.  Keep sending in letters, emails and making phone calls.  IF you post about it ADD links for FS!

idk about 2003 but def at least in 2012

July 12, 2012) On July 5, 2012, the Human Rights Council (HRC) of the United Nations, unanimously adopted a resolution to protect the free speech of individuals on the Internet, the first such U.N. resolution of its kind. The resolution was adopted during the HRC’s 20th session, held July 18-July 6, in Geneva. While they expressed reservations about it, the representatives of China and Cuba were also among the 47 members of the HRC who approved the resolution. The United States was one of the countries that co-sponsored the resolution with Sweden, which spearheaded the motion. Net Neutrality in Fandoms

I see people making posts about what will happen if net neutrality is killed, and I wanted to add to that by showing how the fandom side of the internet would be affected.

  • You’ll have to pay extra to catch up to your favorite shows. The usage of streaming services such as Netflix and Hulu will require fees.
  • The usage of Tumblr will require extra fees. It’ll make it harder for fans to connect with each other.
  • Fanfiction writers like me won’t be able to post our work without paying. That means that we can’t read others’ work either.
  • You want to stay tuned in to what your favorite celebrity is doing online? Sorry, you’ll have to pay.
  • If the bill to take away Net Neutrality passes on December 14, you’ll have to pay to stay in contact with all the friends you’ve met online through your fandoms.
  • If you’re not able to afford increasing rates, you’ll be cut off from everything you love about books, tv shows, movies, and more.

That’s why I’m urging you to take action. If you are part of a fandom on here, we need to join forces with each other and advance as a family to fight this. This sounds super cheesy, but I don’t care of you’re a Superwholockian, a Potterhead, a Star Wars fan, a Star Trek fan – we need to put our differences aside and fight for the right to keep enjoying what we enjoy.

Hell, if you’re not in a fandom, fight for your own rights to the internet, to this unique website.

If you can’t help out, signal boost this and spread it everywhere.

I’ve also reached out to Misha Collins on Instagram, providing him with information and asking him if he can help spread the word. It seems futile, but we need all the help we can get. If you feel comfortable with it, try talking to your favorite famous people to ask them to help spread the word as well.

Ways to help:

This is a link to a petition. The goal is 300,000 signatures and we are nearly there. International users, you can help here too!

We only need to convince one of the three people below to change their vote to ‘No.’ Be smart, formal, and respectful in your emails. If we are rude, we’re no better than them. Check out the net neutrality tag on the explore page to find letter templates that people have put up.

  • Ajit Pai – Ajit.Pai@fcc.gov
  • Michael O’Rielly – Mike.ORielly@fcc.gov
  • Brendan Carr – Brendan.Carr@fcc.gov

You can also text “RESIST” to 50409, which is a bot that will help you fax a letter to your senators. Remember: smart, formal, and respectful.

Thank you.

Remember:

We have until December 14.

Breaking news: The D.C. Appeals Court just killed Net Neutrality.

This could be the end of the Internet as we know it. But it doesn’t have to be.

Tell the FCC to restore Net Neutrality: http://bit.ly/1iOOjoe

they want to make the internet like tv. with channels and paying to get to specific websites and things. net neutrality = not doing that

This impacts every internet user. Please signal boost the hell out of this and sign the petition if you are American

I do not reblog things like this very often, but this affects me both personally and my business as a freelance artist.

In the economy here; cash is already strapped as it is. You bet your ass companies would suck the ever living life out of misc. art sites.

I don’t want it to ever come down to me choosing between groceries or purchasing a new tier package via comcast to be able to access tumblr or DeviantArt (let alone not guaranteeing I’ll even be seen by my customer base since they may not want to pay out their asses either). It doesn’t seem important to most, but I do 90% of my business online entirely.

Please sign up, fight for this and share it with your followers/friends/family and urge them to give them hell as well.

Not writing related, but this is incredibly important. While we pay for service via ISPs, the internet has been a relatively free space where everyone, no matter their income level, is able to connect, access a wealth of information, and express themselves. The Internet has become a major part of our culture as human beings and the notion that ISPs might be able to limit what sites I can access unless I pay them more is utterly sickening. A lot of us are cash strapped as is, and I’d rather not be limited even more by someone else’s greed. Net Neutrality is essential and I hope you guys will understand why it needs to remain.

-Morgan

P.S. Signal boost this if you’re able.

DO YOU WANT THIS? NO?? CLICK THE LINK. REBLOG.

As I understand this ruling, it means that businesses now have to pay extra to ISPs to have access to their websites through that ISP provided at a reasonable speed. If you don’t pay, users’ access to your website will be slowed to a crawl – so independent people and small businesses can forget about getting onto that high speed access tier.

This means that the American internet is going to be firmly under the control of those who have the most money. You’ll only get to see the content of those who can pay the ISPs to provide access at a reasonable speed. This means that you can expect to see skewed representation of just about everything, with those bigger businesses who can afford to pay ISPs a premium for access deciding what you can and cannot read, view and consume on the internet.

This is not something that we have in the UK. Our ISPs compete with each other to provide higher speeds, better services and lower prices, but because there’s a monopoly in the US of a few ISPs who provide services, they can afford to do this to you. You can’t go anywhere else, after all.

Everyone in the US needs to sign that petition, call their representatives, write angry letters and do whatever you can to tell your government that this ruling is Not Okay.

Maybe you guys are sick of this post but It’s really important to freelance artists and pretty much everyone who uses the internet, so here it is again.  o0o/

Hey so I just wanted to say John Oliver on Last Week Tonight has once again gifted us a way to fight for Net Neutrality, which supports free speech online and enables us to shitpost at top speed as well as keep large corporations from stifling small internet businesses (example: Google paying to slow down all duckduckgo searches or Facebook paying to slow down all social media but it)

John Oliver has made a new tool for us to easily leave comments which are now publicly available on the FCC forums to fight back and say that we specifically want Title II oversight of ISPs (explained why this is what we want in his Last Week Tonight video here)

So go to gofccyourself.com

From there you will arrive at a page like this

Click on the “+Express” button (circled below)

Then you will arrive at a forum to input your comment. You are required to put down name and address but it appears email is optional. Then you can write your comment. Here is my example comment below

Thank you and please help support Net Neutrality!

TO ALL OF MY AMERICAN FOLLOWERS, THIS IS INCREDIBLY IMPORTANT! SPREAD THIS PLEASE!

Donald Trump wants to ‘close up’ the Internet

winterlive:

dr-archeville:

Donald Trump has called for a shutdown of the Internet in certain areas to stop the spread of terror.

In a speech at the U.S.S. Yorktown in Mount Pleasant, South Carolina,
on Monday, Trump referenced the use by ISIS of social media as a
recruitment tool.  He recommended a discussion with Bill Gates to shut
off parts of the Internet.

“We’re
losing a lot of people because of the Internet,” Trump said.  “We have to
go see Bill Gates and a lot of different people that really understand
what’s happening.  We have to talk to them about, maybe in certain areas,
closing that Internet up in some way.  Somebody will say, ‘Oh freedom of
speech, freedom of speech.‘  These are foolish people.  We have a lot of
foolish people.”

Some totalitarian governments do it

The notion that the Internet could be shut off is not completely off
base.  North Korea does it.  Some countries have been known to shut off
Internet service to their citizens in times of crisis.  Egypt restricted
the Internet during the 2011 Arab Spring uprising.

Other
countries block certain Internet services and sites.  China is the most
famous example, forbidding most social networking sites as well as
websites that deal with subjects the government doesn’t want its
citizens to know about.

Most Western countries, including the
United States, regulate the Internet very loosely.  There are few
restrictions about what American citizens can do and say on the
Internet.  Child pornography is one example of forbidden Internet
activity in the United States – Google is barred from linking to it,
and websites cannot display images of it.

Why the United States can’t do it

But a full-on “closing up” of the Internet “in certain areas” would be
an impossible task.  There are so many players with so much redundancy
built into the system, that the Internet is not just something that can
be turned off with a wave of a magic wand.

Virtually every part in the United States has multiple Internet service provider options.

Comcast, (CMCSA) Time Warner Cable (TWC) and the other major broadband companies don’t overlap much.  But Verizon (VZ, Tech30), AT&T (T, Tech30), Sprint (S) and T-Mobile (TMUS)
all provide the same service to roughly the same areas.  Satellite
companies also provide Internet to most parts of the country.

Removing Internet service in certain areas of the U.S. would require
those companies to turn off their cell towers and fiber networks, and to
restrict satellite access to people living in those regions.

America can’t shut off the Internet overseas either

Shutting down Internet service in foreign countries could be even more difficult.

Despite a common belief to the contrary, the United States does not
control the global Internet.  Servers on foreign soil serve up the Web
and other Internet services to people living abroad.

So foreign
Internet infrastructure would need to be disrupted or shut down to turn
off service in certain areas – already a tricky task made even harder
if the countries and companies controlling those servers and cell towers
abroad don’t cooperate.

Whatever, Donald Trump wouldn’t want the Internet shut off anyway.  Then he couldn’t tweet.

While Trump clearly doesn’t know the first thing about how the
internet works (outside of his Twitter account), don’t let “it couldn’t happen in America” blind us to some
very real ways in which the internet can be made less free, less
accessible, and less useful for things other than government propaganda
and surveillance.  And don’t doubt that President Trump (and his party)
would be happy to implement them.

the time honored tool of every dictator, censorship is one of the first things out of trump’s mouth. this is real censorship, as opposed to when someone tells you you’re wrong on twitter.

it should come as no surprise whatsoever that 45′s pick for FCC commissioner, ajit pai, is SUPER excited to strip net neutrality from american citizens.  if you didn’t know, net neutrality is the principle that currently allows you to access whatever internet site you want, at the same speed as all the other sites, without your ISP spying on you TOO much. the US regulations that protect you in this way are an annoying speed bump for ISPs in their quest to wring you like a wet dishrag until all your money falls out, and of course Team Spraytan works for them, not you.

and hey, if they do want to enact the fuckin lunatic censorship proposed in the article above, getting rid of these protections will be their first stop.  what’s the most likely target of this anti-internet offensive?  obviously, it’ll be american activists, scientists, and anybody who’s ever used the phrase “tiny hands” – or, as all those folks will be called in newspeak, terrorists.

just one more thing you should keep on your list of Horrible Things To Yell At Representatives About.
