Former Edmonton Oilers enforcer Georges Laraque wins drag competition | The Star

A former Edmonton Oilers enforcer lip-synched his way to victory at a drag queen competition Friday.

Georges
Laraque won the $1,000 prize at the Montreal Pride event after
performing Whitney Houston’s I Will Always Love You in a wedding dress,
and promptly donated the money back to the festival.

“It was packed, it was insane, it was awesome,” Laraque told StarMetro in a phone interview Monday.

Laraque
was known as one of the National Hockey League’s toughest fighters
during his 14-year career, standing six feet three inches and weighing
over 270 pounds.

Montreal Pride reached out and asked him to enter last weekend’s
competition, he said the decision was simple.

“There’s

just because of their sexual orientation. I think that’s stupid in
2018,” Laraque said.

“It’s one thing to say you are supportive, but I’ve always liked to do it in action.”
