Just woke up from a hyper-realistic, terrifying dream in which the Orange Abomination actually HAD started a nuclear war – but with agreements to only bomb the coasts.
And his mindless followers even here in Florida cheered and hooted “Bomb the Coasts!” and “No More Coastal Elites!”
And I was separated from my mom and daughter, trying to contact them before the power and the cell service went out.

I was born four years after the WWII ended. I heard anough accounts from my parents and relatives and read enough books about the pre-war Poland to know that everyone was hoping, against all evidence, that “Hitler will not start anything”, “we signed this pact, it will protect us”, or, even in Poland: “he’s a strong man, and that’s what Europe needs at this point”, ““he has good ideas”, etc., etc. Today I hear about “checks and balances”, “patriot men and women in congress”, after hearing in 2016 “he’s a joke” and “he’ll never get elected”.
I don’t often get political… but something has happened
Trump. He and his administration are trying to change the law so that whatever gender you were “born as” is your unchangeable sex/gender.

This is from a new New York Times article, regarding the technicalities of what has been said. They go even further to discuss what they accurately call “biggest battlegrounds” for transgender students: the bathrooms and locker rooms.
We can’t be quiet about this. They are trying to erase who we are. To make it so that we just DON’T EXIST. As a transgender male who lives in America, this scares the shit out of me.
As I said, I don’t normally get political on my blog, but you all need to know about this.
This year all 435 members of the House of Representatives are up for re-election, along with a number of Senators (including malevolent wet sock in a human suit, ted cruz), and many state Governors
Democrats have a real chance to take back the House and perhaps even the Senate if we work hard enough
In my state, Pennsylvania, this election is particularly important for democrats because the Supreme Court of PA ruled that our congressional map (which was drawn in 2010 by our republican majority state government) is unconstitutional due to excessive gerrymandering which purposely diluted the power of democrats
The PA GOP tried to take the case to the US Supreme Court claiming SCOPA didn’t have the right to redraw the map but SCOTUS refused to see the case so the new map (shown below) will be in effect for this year’s elections
Pennsylvania went for Trump in 2016 by an extremely narrow margin and we have a huge opportunity this election to not only re-elect our democratic Governor and Senator, but also send up to 7 women (all dems) to Congress (we’ve never had a woman in congress before) including one from my district, PA-6
But enough about just my state
Elections aren’t just about the federal government
Every single year there are hundreds of thousands of people are elected to fill positions on a local and state level that will affect you far more than any federal rep
Positions like school board, supervisors, mayors, sherrifs, county judges, district attorneys, state rep, etc
Every single election is important every single year
In 2018 it’s easier than ever to just google who’s running, what are they running for, and what do they believe in
You have to participate in democracy for it to work
This is the election that counts. Start educating yourself now on who will be campaigning to be your congresspeople/governor/etc.
Register to vote NOW. Don’t wait. You can do it any time.
This is the fight we need to win. VOTE

Also…reminder to pay attention to all local elections and VOTE. These elected officials are the people most likely to directly impact your life in the short term.
This has to start now. Right now.
Get your birth certificates. There may be a fee or long wait times. Make sure you get a certified copy.
Make sure you have ID. Dig into your state’s laws and the whole Real ID thing, because (and sorry I can’t research this now, but pneumonia) I believe there are certain states whose driver’s licenses don’t qualify for Real ID.
Make sure you’re registered to vote. Google it. Follow the instructions for your state.
Know where your local polling place is or find out if you can vote by mail.
Vote in ALL your upcoming elections. Yes, that means the little ones for city council or dog catcher or whatever. Vote those racist, homophobic, bigots out at every level.
They’re like weeds. You can pull up every visible bit, but if you leave one tiny segment of root, they’ll just come back.
To quote Mira Grant, rise up while you can. Because the Republicans are way the hell worse than zombies.

Unfortunately, this isn’t just a meme at this point. According to an article put out by the Washington Post today, more people have been killed at schools this year than have been killed while serving in the military. “Even excluding non-students who died in school shootings (for example, teachers) the total still exceeds military casualties.” The three mass-casualty events for service members were two helicopter crashes and a plane crash.
The article continues, and only gets worse: “The number of deaths and school shooting incidents through May 18 are each higher this year than at any point since 2000. There have been three times as many deaths in school shootings so far this year than in the second-most deadly year through May 18, 2005.“
I understand that a school is not more dangerous than a combat zone. I have a retired military father, uncle, and grandfather, and an active duty brother who has been deployed to Afghanistan and Kuwait, among others. However, I went to middle and high school in Coral Springs, which is adjacent to and has close ties with Parkland. I have friends who go to Stoneman Douglas, including those whose own friends were killed, and friends whose family go to Douglas. I saw the videos as they were first starting to come out from people who recorded it themselves. I saw the shooter’s instagram before it was taken down. It makes me so sick to have to hear again and again about CHILDREN going through this, as my own community has, because adults have repeatedly let them down.
There is no reason to own guns capable of mass casualty incidents and no one needs high capacity magazines, such as those used at Douglas. Guns need to stop being allowed in the hands of children, such as in the cases of Douglas and now Santa Fe. Conservatives are valuing shooting cans behind their trailer over the LIVES OF CHILDREN because they seem to have no capacity for empathy and want to stick it to the “ESJAYDOUBLEYUH LIBTARDS THAT WANNA STEAL OUR GUNS!”. I’m done expressing my feelings nicely about this. The GOP and conservatives need to get the NRA’s dick out of their mouths. I’m at a loss for words because I’m so disgusted by so many people who value NRA payouts and getting hard over their gun collection in this sick country over the safety of innocent people.
Gun control (not outright banning) has been proven to work. The US is the only first-world country (forgive me, I’m not sure how to better phrase that) where this happens on such a large scale, and everyone knows it, even if they continue to deny it. I know I’m mostly preaching to the choir here, but FUCK, I am pissed. VOTE IN THE MIDTERM ELECTIONS. GET THESE EVIL FUCKS OUT OF OFFICE.
