I don’t get why people hate immigrants so much… Like they’re literally just… People… From another location….

My partner is an immigrant from the UK and still holds his citizenship. At a recent event, an acquaintance talked about how many “immigrants” get jobs over “Canadians” and they shouldn’t allowed to be management (which my partner is). My partner reaches across the table and goes “Hi, immigrant here!” and she goes “Oh I didn’t mean immigrants like you…” And you can so tell they just mean “brown people” or “Asian people” but they pretend it’s about jobs and shit.

That’s the same with my family. We were war immigrants from the soviet union and now live in Germany. Now the syrians are here because they also have war, and people keep asking me why I’m defending them so mercilessly. And when I tell them that my family (that is still alive) has gone through the same bullshit. But they insist that both scenarios are completely different. They’re not different, you’re just racist.

I’m a New Zealander in the UK and one of my bosses is South African. Someone in the lunchroom was ranting about ‘immigrants’ and I was like ‘um, I’m an immigrant, so is he,’ and they were like, ‘oh but you’re the RIGHT type of immigrants’, and I replied, ‘what, white?’ and they shut up.

TIL in parts of Britain if someone is wronging you, you can get on your knees and cry “Hear me! Hear me! Come to my aid, my Prince, for someone does me wrong” and then recite the Lord’s Prayer in French, and the other person is legally required to stop what he’s doing or pay a penalty

seriously though, it’s just people celebrating normal things. the british colonialism happened hundreds of years ago and while the effects are still here today, none of these people did anything lol. they don’t have to pay the price for what their ancestors did

Jamaica, Barbados and most of the West Indies weren’t emancipated til after her accession. Churchill who caused a famine that killed millions in Bengal and then chalked it up to “bengalis breeding like rabbits” was her favourite prime minister. The queen is an imperialist, has been an imperialist and would still be if colonised people didn’t fight so hard for their freedom. so jot that down and shut the fuck up

the queen could literally intervene and stop british children from being so malnourished that there has been a widespread return of rickets in the country but she won’t. kate and baldy could do something about this instead of going to various ex-colonies of britain and lecturing locals about the dangers of having too many children whilst they are expecting their third inbred freeloader but they won’t. megan markle and ginger are going on a £120,000 honeymoon. whilst children forced into poverty by the tories fill their pockets with food at school just to get through the weekend. the lifestyle and entitlement of the royal family remains absolutely and completely morally indefensible.

18 years ago a man walked into a school in Dunblane, Scotland with four handguns and killed 16 students all under 6 years old, a teacher and then himself.

This led to a debate on gun control and in 1997 2 firearms amendment acts were passed making it illegal to own a handgun for personal use in the United Kingdom.  We have had no shooting on a similar scale to this since.

6 weeks later in Australia was the massacre in Port Arthur when 35 people were killed and 23 wounded, which led to the imposing strict gun control. There have been no shootings on a similar scale to this since, either.

If I hear one more person tell me that there’s nothing that can be done in the US when there are massacres after massacre I will scream because it is so clear and people are pretending to be blind.
