For anyone not so familiar with cat behavior, this cat is out of its mind excited to do this. It’s much more rare for cars to wag their tails but it means the same as it does when a dog does it. This cat is curious and proud and playing. It keeps looking at its owner too, like “LOOK AT ME, DAD” and it’s so rare to get videos of cats this happy. This is fucking rad

Nope.. wagging tails means anger or irritation in cat body language.

hey y’all, hope you don’t mind me stepping in!

you’re both right 🙂 a wagging tail means the cat is highly stimulated (think coiled spring, ready to go off). depending on the situation, this can be interpreted differently – just like people can smile nervously at job interviews vs. happily grin at friends.

in most cases, it’s safe to interpret overstimulation as ‘you’re doing something to amp up the cat & it wants you to stop’ (ex. unwanted petting). it should be seen as a warning; all that pent-up energy COULD be released as a swat or bite.

BUT in this case, that tail-wagging ‘frustration’ is the stimulation that comes from problem-solving (where can I jump? is it safe to go here?) and the excitement of play. it’s good to be wary of ‘cute’ animals vids, but this seems like an unproblematic video!

I’d like to add to this–just look at world-famous box-loving cat, Maru, who wags his tail every time he stuffs his body into a box or other small object. He’s clearly not about to attack the person behind the camera! It’s definitely based on stimulation, but more to the point of “ahhh FINALLY I’ve gotten into the small space, now how do I get the rest of me inside”:

@why-animals-do-the-thing what do you think about this and the cats behavior?

@pangur-and-grim is spot on with their commentary here! A wagging tail (on a dog or a cat) is a sign of stimulation, also referred to professionally as arousal. That can be either positive or negative in experience. It’s like an accelerometer on a car – tail movement tells you the car is revving, but not how fast it is going or where.

Sometimes you can tell from tail movement and tension if the internal state of the animal is tense or excited. Low-stress engagement (calm interest, excitement, getting happy pets) tends to get a tail that wags more slowly, in softer arcs, whereas high-stress engagement (over-stimulation, prey drive) will get a stiffer tail wagging in more tight movements. These look like lower-stress tail movements to me and likely correlate with interest and engagement rather than anything unpleasant.

He’s huge….

That’s Deep Blue, they think she’s the biggest white shark ever filmed

Of course it’s a girl. She’s beautiful and I’ll keep my hands inside the cage at all times

I…I love her.

My daughter is beautiful and strong.

her dorsal fin is longer than a full grown adult but I in all my 5’2" glory still wants to protect her

I am, I believe, the reasonable amount of scared of sharks that a smart soft mammal should be, but I definitely just said “whos a big pretty girl” at the screen.

Thank you, tumblr, for reminding me that things I’m afraid of are beautiful too.

So I got curious and look this giant up and found this picture of the diver high fiving her as she passed.  According to the article, not only is Deep Blue big but in the picture she’s super pregnant too.

im in awe

So.

The Sound of Silence is probably one of my favorite songs ever. When speaking of the “true” Simon and Garfunkel version (as opposed to the version where they added background music to in post to make it more “pop radio”), it’s a song that gives me chills.

Disturbed is not a band that I really enjoy. I remember in college, my (now) wife gave me a copy of a Disturbed CD, because she had two for some reason. I tried to listen to it, I really did. Didn’t do anything for me.

But this? Holy fuck, this is stunning. This is amazing.

This gives me chills.

Holy shit, you have to listen to the whole sing.

I have chills.

Holy SHIT.

This is the band who did “Down With The Sickness”????

UM?????

If you stop before three minutes you’re missing the truly mind-blowing bit

@deadcatwithaflamethrower you got me hooked on this song

You’re all welcome.  😀

yeah im gonna reblog this twice in a fuckin row because i have never heard someone more in love with a song they’re paying homage to than this guy

except maybe jeff buckley but he’s an outlier

@actuallyclintbarton

Disturbed has really only been getting better since Down With The Sickness?  There’s that one song off their 2005 album about “This is the world we live in and these are the hands we’re given, use them and let’s start trying to make it a place worth living in,” and then their album Asylum from 2010 had a song condemning injustices including domestic abuse, and one about how current society is wrecking a bunch of things including the planet and maybe we should not do that, and a powerful song about the Holocaust called Never Again.

Not necessarily what you’d expect from a (stereotypical) metal band, right? Esp. this one if you only heard their first album; I dunno about you, but it makes me feel better knowing there’re big tough-looking metal guys out there on my side who feel the same way I do about some of these things, down to the passionate yelling.

(ETA: I’m not a hardcore fan, just going off what’s in the music. But hey, I’m catching up on the 2015 album now and that’s promising too from what I’ve heard so far.)

Reblog and you might save someone’s life, especially with all our Black Girls going missing #ProtectBlackGirls #SaveLife

For those who don’t know what’s happening in the video, she untied her shoelaces, pulled one through the inside of the zip tie binding her hands, then tied the shoelaces together. Then, by pulling downward and back and forth on the shoelaces with her feet, she created enough friction to wear away part of the ziptie, making it weak enough to snap right off her hands.

Okay, at this point there has to be something wrong with me, right? I’ve watched this 20 times in the last half hour, I still don’t know what they are saying half the time, but it doesn’t seem to matter because i’ve been crying my eyes out laughing for the entire last half hour …

what the fuck is this from i gotta know

it’s called letterkenny and it’s about a man who gets dumped and then goes on to shirk his pacifism and reclaim and hold his title as the toughest dude in the rural town of letterkenny ontario. every episode cold opens like this in increasingly bizarre ways.

I read the bit about not being able to parse what’s being said and then I read the bit about it being set in this fuckin province, and I thought, like, what kind of accent could they possibly use that was so incomprehensible while still setting it in northern goddamn

Ontario? and actually, okay, you know what, despite having lived immersed in it my entire life I’m not sure i’ve ever seen this exact accent on tv before, it is just weird to see actors using it

My cousins grew up with the guy who wrote this show and is the main actor. It’s scary accurate for hick town Ontario (it’s based on the town of Listowel) and apparently some of the characters are based so closely on real people that they’ve recognized themselves while watching.

I love Canada
