And THIS is why lace was a worn primarily by royalty and aristocracy for so many centuries.. It was expensive and time-consuming to produce. Wearing it, and wearing LOTS of it was a blatant show of wealth and excessive consumption.

Giethoorn in Netherlands has no roads or any modern transportation at all, only canals. Well, and 176 bridges too. Tourists have to leave their cars outside of the village and travel here by foot or boat by. So you can probably imagine how peaceful it is here.
So I made a tweet about how Maciej Ceglowski (aka Pinboard guy) should consult with fandom on how to build a new fandom platform inclusive of not just text, but images and multimedia.
And then Maciej DMed me and said if fandom (I realize this does not include all parts of fandom) can get a consensus spec of what this platform should consist of, he’ll see what we can do. I have split the document into requirements and nice to haves. I know I’m not going to get everything, but hopefully this is a good enough start to get the ball rolling.
So, uh, the doc was one page when I started it this morning. Now it’s almost 30 pages, has a list of features people can vote on, a section for discussion of complex topics, and a social corner where somebody is having a virtual singalong of Bohemian Rhapsody.
I want to be clear: I haven’t even presented this doc to Maciej yet. I don’t know if this is viable at all. But we have specs for a place that we could call a home, which did not exist yesterday, and that is absolutely mind-boggling.
